The Challenge Walk is open to Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Guides, Senior Section, Network Units, recognised Youth Organisations and Leader Teams. The walk is suitable for individuals aged 10½ years and over and for teams that are between 4 (minimum) and 8 (maximum) in number. Leaders/Parents are welcome to walk with young people where appropriate, however these need to be included in the numbers above.

The Scout & Guide Associations carry out Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks against all adult Leaders/Helpers. We therefore ask that all Leaders/Helpers who participate in the event conform to the Scout/Guide Associations regulations to ensure that your adult helpers are suitable for working with young people.

The Challenge Walk will commence at approximately 6pm (Long Walk) and 7pm (Short Walk). Please note that there are NO DOGS allowed on the Walesby Forest site or route. Any participants wishing to camp after the walk should pitch their tent before commencing the walk. Camp Fees are included within the event fee.

Checkpoints will be situated at convenient places along the route. Map references will be shown on the Tally Card, which will be issued to all participants before they walk. The Tally Card also contains individual medical information in the case of an emergency situation. You must carry your Tally Card at all times during the event. Refreshments will be available at various checkpoints on the route and are included in the event fee.

When you have returned your booking form, you will receive a team pack which includes your Team Details, Starting Time and Full Medical Form, which must be completed prior to walking. A Challenge Walk 2023 Application Form must be completed detailing all required information and submitted to the Event Secretary prior to the closing date to confirm entry.

The entrance fee for the event has been set at £# per person for all participants (including Leaders & Helpers). The entrance fee includes all food, certificates and camp fees.

Walker Information

All walkers are to assemble at Walesby Forest and have their equipment checked at their allotted booking in time. If you are camping, then please leave plenty of time to pitch your tent before booking in.

Tally Cards will be issued to each walker for identification purposes and will be checked and clipped at each checkpoint. On arrival at a checkpoint, it is the responsibility of each team member to ensure that the Marshall clips their Tally Card, check in first, and then eat.

Any team member who wishes to retire must do so at a checkpoint where ever possible. Transportation will be provided to take you back to the Walesby Forest site. Group leaders are not permitted to pick up walkers from checkpoints or anywhere on the route.

If in the opinion of the organisers, a walker is considered unfit to continue, then they will be asked to retire at that checkpoint.

All walkers will be asked to complete a Full Medical Form giving details of any medical conditions, medication, doctor details and home contact information. This form must be completed and brought to the Booking Office on arrival. Medical Form contents are confidential and will be destroyed once the event is completed.

All walkers are advised to download ‘What3words’ app to their smartphones via the app store or google store which can be used to confirm your location to 3m2 in the event of an emergency (Optional)

If the entire event is cancelled due to circumstances out of the event organisers control, all entrance fees will be refunded.

Finally - in all matters, the organisers' decision is final
